Oscillating Heat Pipe (A passive high heat transfer device) feat. NASA JPL

Two-phase CFD simulation of liquid-film formation, phase change, and heat transfer in a microchannel. A thin film is essential for high-flux heat transfer, but heat transfer drops once the film fully evaporated, leaving a dry patch. A square channel helps redistribute the liquid from the channel corner to the channel center to delay the formation of dry patches. The animation shows the distribution of liquid fraction, phase change rate, and temperature as the air bubble pushes forward.

Water Ingress in Thermal Insulation

Experiments and multiphase modeling of moisture transport and heat loss in a jacketed insulation. The first animation shows how water condenses on the outer ring and then accumulates at the bottom. The second animation shows the distribution of liquid saturation, temperature, water vapor concentration, and phase change rate.

Thermochemical Heat-Storage Materials

Experimental and computational investigation of thermochemical materials for passive thermal protection. The animation shows scanning X-ray microscopy of the deformed structure inside some dehydrated epsomite.

EV Battery Pack Thermal Runaway

Multiphase CFD modeling of high-temperature gas and particle transport during battery thermal runaway.
